As an avid supporter of FC Barcelona when Messi played at the club, I was more interested in the team’s victory than in Lionel Messi’s outstanding performances even though I am overly crazy about him.
If Messi scored 10 goals in a soccer game that didn’t lead Barcelona towards winning the Champion’s league, Spanish La Liga trophy etc., it affected his chances of being crowned the Best Footballer for that season. It is so because we expect every that individual performance would impact the team’s performance.
I think it is important for us all to ask often, WHAT DO WE WANT TO ACHIEVE? WHAT DO WE WANT?
Once the goal is clear, the next task would be to get the best person to lead the movement. The goal may be your initiative but you may not be the best person to lead the process to achieve success. The noblest thing to do is to fit into where you can make the most contributions.
To buttress my thoughts, I will adopt a few words from Robin Sharma. “it’s so human to crave applause and recognition and acclaim but leadership is more than trying to look good in the eyes of others. It is more about standing for a cause”
At this Juncture, I would love to ask, would you be willing to take a backstage perhaps, be a cheerleader and let someone else shine as long as it is for the good of the goal?
Remember, Team Victory should supersede Personal interests.
