THEY CHANGE THE TRUTH, THEY FORGET IT CAN CHANGE THEM
2 days ago while I reunited with friends to celebrate 20 years graduation from our Alma Mata Federal Government College Kaduna, I stumbled on a video, where Adams Oshiomole said “I think that for democracy to flourish, only people who can accept the pains of rigging (sorry defeat) should participate in an election”. When I heard those words, I was not sure I heard clearly until I replayed the video 5 times more to be certain that those words came from a man that once stood for justice in our dear country Nigeria.
Adams Oshiomole, currently the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), a former governor of Edo State, was at some point in his career the President of the National Labour Congress. He was a man, the entire Nigerian workforce relied on to pursue the course of justice on their behalf, He was known to have suffered several intimidations, organised and led several protests all geared towards the good of common men and he never backed down until he saw that the rights of the people who thrived to ensure that Nigeria was progressive were upheld. Despite these achievements, you would wonder how Adams Oshiomole transformed so badly to become the kind of man that he portrays himself to be today; A man who stands for lies in the face of truth, promoting injustice with every opportunity he gets because he has been cajoled to believe that politics is WAYO (419) business meant for people who make up their minds never to match with deeds the words that they speak. A BIG SHAME!
Growing up, my father often had few popular sayings he would often repeat to keep me in check; one of which goes “if you let the vices you are trying to conquer, conquer you, you will lose the inhibition to overcome their powers”. Adams Oshiomole and many leaders currently in charge of the affairs of our economy have fallen victim to that adage including our dear President, Muhammed Buhari. Many of those men currently at the helms of affairs were men we once followed because they had the courage to speak the truth irrespective of the consequences. They saw Nigeria as a cause that they could die for and most of them epitomised it following the kind of treatments they endured for the sake of making our nation great again. Now all those sacrifices could be termed as propaganda because these men ascending power decided to carry on lies as a way of life forgetting that you become what you repeatedly do.
Oshiomole in his speech after they rigged the election against the dancing senator, did not intend telling the public that the election was rigged but those words dropped off his jaws in reflex because for APC at the moment, the only way to win an election in Nigeria is to rig the poles yet they tell us to leave our offices, stand under the sun and rain to get PVCs when they know well enough that our votes may never count.
At this Juncture, as we mark the 58th independence of Nigeria, it is important for us as citizens to keep in mind that the only thing worth celebrating during this period, is the gift of our lives. Being alive at this moment in Nigeria is a big privilege God has given to every one of us that is able to read this. Having life also means that God has not given up on our dear country Nigeria thus we must do same irrespective of the kinds of terrible governance we experience at almost all sectors of our economy.
Life has been given to us Nigerians to believe more in ourselves in these faces of adversity; migrating to other countries will not solve the nations’ problems or root out the current leaders we have, refusing to cast votes would only strengthen the resolve of our current leaders to commit to further lies that will continually destroy us. We must hold onto whatever hope is left to salvage this nation. Our utmost desire may not be realised in 2019 elections but they will be realised if we keep matching on.
Keep in Mind that the World makes way for the man who knows where he is going but we too must do well to ensure that when we get to where we want to be, we will not CHANGE THE TRUTH LIKE ADAMS OSHIOMOLE SO WE CAN REMAIN TRUE NATIONALISTS interested in positively rebuilding our nation Nigeria.
