“There’s No Safety in Being the Same Person Today that you were Yesterday” — Robin Sharma
Every time, she walked down to the car park to drive off in her cute BMW 3 series, Simon was among those who stood on the pavement and looked at her. I am certain that all those guys staring had different intentions and different things to say.
I often amused myself whenever I stayed at the balcony as she arrived at work and drove off at the close of work listening to the guys saying all sorts of things about the Damsel Esther.
Over time, I noticed that Simon and Esther were beginning to get along and I wondered how this guy who never said anything to the boys at the balcony managed to pull it off. Well to him, he felt it was simple. He simply told the girl he liked her and would like a chance to date her.
A few months passed and this guy who now came to work in her car told me he wanted to get married to Esther and would be asking her that weekend. He also informed and invited other guys that now talked about him as well for the surprise engagement event scheduled to hold at Silver bird Cinema after a movie.
My daring guy, who almost spent all his savings for his pearl, took a hall exclusive for his invitees. Only the 100 invitees were allowed access to the Romantic Movie he chose to make the evening special. The Hall had a different ambience from the usual cinema room and some small decorations making me wish the proposal happened before the movies commenced but the plan wasn’t mine so I had to chill 😁.
At the end of the movie, with all the excitement in the hall, The BIG QUESTION popped on-screen “ESTHER, BREATH OF MY LIFE, WILL YOU MARRY ME?”. We expected a YES but instead, we heard “Simon what is the meaning of this? How dare you pull this kind of thing on me, how do you think you can marry me when you barely can…” In anger, Esther stormed out of the movie hall. As you may have predicted, there was still silence and Simon almost collapsed.
It took weeks to rescue the Young man who almost died of heartbreak. Esther had moved on, I heard she landed a better job and had to leave.
Months later, another damsel, Anu landed on our premises and the balcony gist started again only this time, Simon never watched. He was not interested in anything called female again in his life he told me.
Anu seemed interested in Simon who had become Nasty owing to his experience. I perceived he liked Anu but didn’t want to get on the lane that almost destroyed him again. He Cherished the memory of the dead so much that he was unwilling to dine with the living. He wanted to play safe, stay single, take no risks and perhaps watch one of those balcony guys move on with Anu.
Well, I knew, the safety net wasn’t one of Simon’s gifts. He tried again knowing that THERE WAS NO SAFETY IN BEING THE SAME PERSON THAT HE WAS YESTERDAY.
The rest of the story is history. I know nothing about Damsel Esther anymore but I know Queen Anu has brought my friend’s life BLISS.
