There are Two Kinds of Thieves…

Last weekend, I watched that lovely action movie titled The Italian Job produced in 2003 again 😁.

Donald Sutherland said the following profound words to Mark Wahlberg “You know, Charlie, there are two kinds of thieves in this world: those who steal to enrich their lives, and those who steal to define their lives. Don’t be the latter”.

Nigeria was colonised by the British until 1960 when she gained her independence. As Nigerians, we claim that our resources were plundered, by the British and many other foreign countries. If that is true, they did better with what they plundered. They enriched themselves. Many of us Nigerians have been to Britain and many other countries of the world and we have seen good roads, great education, good governance of some sort, adequate infrastructures leaving the population to perhaps have just credit issues 😁.

In Nigeria, where we have all become free men since 1960 to lead ourselves, we have also seen men steal not to enrich their lives but to define their lives. Several leaders in Nigeria have plundered this country without handing us good roads, sound education, constant electricity, great healthcare, a thriving economy etc.

One year from now, we will head to the polls to elect new leaders for our country Nigeria. Are there guarantees that the new crop of leaders won’t steal our nation’s wealth? Absolutely No but they could be leaders who would steal to enrich our lives rather than those who steal to define their lives.

May Nigerians, be wise and may the world support us to elect leaders that would make our country great again especially for those of us unwilling to relocate abroad 😁.
