By the time I was 5 years old, I was able to lead 15 decades of the #Rosary because the moment I started taking very comfortable steps as a toddler, my parents in the company of my Uncle instructed us to attend Block Rosary Crusade. Apart from Rosary recitations, the block rosary crusade at that time organised quiz competitions, atilogu and other cultural dance contests etc. and we learned a lot from those gatherings especially about fostering great #relationships amongst ourselves.

After some time, we stopped going to Block Rosary Crusade but were taken constantly to the church by our parents who never failed to ask us what we learned when we returned home after those marathon prayer and Bible study sessions. Maybe our parents Kept in mind that; a child needed to be trained in the way he should go so that when he grows, he won’t depart from them.

During those times, people fought each other but punches were mostly seen during those periods because we revered the sight of blood and had no need for knives and guns. Boys still chased girls but they treated each other with greater respect even when there was nothing much to offer but lyrics and some cheap gifts 📦. We spoke different tribes and dialects at that time but we still saw our neighbours as closer brothers than those blood relations we had that lived far away in some eastern or western part of the country thus we did everything to protect ourselves from forces outside. There were even active politicians at that time too but they talked more about value additions and how to grow the economy even when they failed rather than how to use perks and money to entice the people into voting wrongly.

The ills in our society continue to grow because we fail more at the level of our families than anyplace else. The world today, especially in Nigeria, seem to teach survival as an ‘at all cost’ strategy which requires that we shove everything including morals that may threaten our existence to achieve anything and that mentality has created some kind of societal decadence that requires a total reorientation and God’s grace to correct.

We hear cases of #Rape, #Murder, #Riots, #Hunger, Deadly #diseases and several clans of leaders that lie for a living because daily we lose our values but we must fix these things.

The governments are not enough now to deal with the problems in our world. We need to go back to basics, back to good family values, back to the times when the #churches and #mosques had power because they worshipped in truth and in spirit, not these times when motivational talks seem to take the place of the true gospel. Teachers need to be taught how to counsel again and #VALUE needs to be given a new working definition which is to be a better version of what we were yesterday.

May God help us as we help ourselves.
