LEADING IS REALLY SOMETHING 😁.

When I was certain it was time for me to become an entrepreneur, I went to one of my mentors and informed him about my decision. I knew he had some mixed feelings but he asked me some simple questions about the things I liked about my former workplace and I made a good list of things to be grateful for like; a dogged boss, the opportunity to work on some challenging tasks, great amiable colleagues etc.

Then, he also asked me about the things I didn’t like. Of course, I had a short list that had to do mostly with remuneration and the subversion of processes and other personal expectations that didn’t matter at the workplace.

By the time I was done, he had just a few words “Chuka, I am certain that now that you will be a boss of yourself and others soon. You will soon begin to understand a bit of why things are the way they are sometimes with CEOs when you lead. However, those things you said you liked, make sure you reflect a lot of them in your organisation and those things you said you did not like, make sure you never do them to the people that will work for you”

That was timeless wisdom to me. I fall short a lot of times because I sometimes now understand what makes CEOs shout and fire 😁 but I always keep myself in check with the words of that great man.
