IF YOU DON’T TRY, YOU WILL NEVER KNOW

In my quest to meet the new sales target at Jewel Publishers, where I function in the sales and marketing team, I decided to take refresher courses hoping that meeting my sales target would be easier.

During my research, I stumbled on an old audiobook by Joe Girard titled ‘How to Sell Anything to Anybody’. Since I was very interested in meeting my new sales target, I immediately delved into learning from this very inspiring book that talked about Faith in yourself, How to use your business card, How to dress for the occasion, How to ask for sales and lots more.

Wow! By the time I was done, it felt like I experienced another Pentecost in Traditional Sales and Marketing. I immediately hit the road hoping for the same or better result like Joe Gerard 😁.

Making sure, I didn’t have an offensive cologne on, dressed in a very simple Nigerian traditional attire, I decided to begin with the use of business cards.

At the restaurant where I had breakfast, I gave out a few business cards and left some at the table hoping that someone would stumble on them and call me.

As I walked out of the restaurant, I was greeted by this Chinese looking man who loved my attire and after a few exchanges, I gave him my business card in case he needed our services.

Amid all those people, some paying attention to us, some chatting away, he said ‘I don’t need your card.’ In my mind, I begged for mercy from this embarrassment and tried to insist that he took it. He did but the moment I was close to the door, He dropped it on the floor and said ‘Man I told you I don’t need it.

I wished the ground swallowed me at that moment but I walked on.

I tried to walk tall because I knew that I was only trying to put my training into practice.

Joe Gerard didn’t tell me everything in that book. He didn’t tell me I would be rejected most embarrassingly.

But I remembered that he said, ‘Sometimes I would have a few wins and some losses but if I keep on, I will keep having more wins.’
