GOD IS GOOD

A few Sundays ago at the Holy Mass, the Priest shared a story during his homily.

There was a king who had a servant he loved. The king did not believe in God, but his servant did and believed that whatever God does is good.

One day, while they were hunting, they encountered a bear, which attacked the king and chopped up one of his fingers. The king, so angry, said; if your God is good, why did he allow the bear to chop off my finger? The Servant had no explanation but insisted that God was good and was imprisoned, as a result.

Having locked his favourite servant in prison, the king, on another day, went out hunting alone. This time, he was abducted, by people who offered humans as sacrifice. While they were about to sacrifice him, they found he didn’t have a finger and could not sacrifice someone that wasn’t whole to their god and decided to release him.

Arriving at his palace, the king immediately ordered the release of his servant and narrated his experience. To that, the servant smiled and reminded the king about the goodness of God.

Moved by the servant’s belief, the king asked, ‘But why did your God allow me to lock you up in the prison?’ Smiling, the servant said, ‘I would have been sacrificed in your place if I had gone with you’.
