DEFEND YOUR WORTH
A few years ago, I was shortlisted to attend an interview for the Supply Chain Data Manager position.
During the interview, before the panel delved into asking professional questions related to supply chain management and Strategic information, they began with personal questions ending with ‘How much would you like to earn?’
I quickly replied 500,000 Naira ($2000) with a deep sigh and thought I messed up because I sold myself cheap.
But I was quickly taken aback when the Director of Finance exclaimed “What! What will you be doing to deserve such pay?” making me wonder if I was in the right place.
I began my small lecture about telling the panel how data could help them earn 30 times the amount I was asking for if top management was willing to carry out suggestions from the monthly report we hoped to generate.
As I continued my explanation about how opportunities could be created through effective management of data, I noticed that the Director of Finance who wanted to offer me way less was trying to interrupt me so he could understand the meaning of certain Supply Chain Acronyms like MOS, SOH, LMIS, Losses and Adjustments etc. but we had little time for supply chain education on that board and I eventually won.
In this world, people always have reasons why you do not deserve the things you seek but You are responsible for the value you place on yourself.
Defend Your Worth.
