BE A PROCESS-DRIVEN ENTERPRISE
In January, When I went to Dunes supermarket to shop for groceries, I ran into Kelechi (not his real name), whom I believe almost prayed that the ground would open and swallow him following the shock I saw on his face.
I was quick to say, ‘guy relax. It’s been Seven (7) years since it happened, and I forgive you. I immediately saw the relief in his countenance. He didn’t expect me to forgive him for stealing three (3) million I invested in a business he pitched to me years ago.
I quickly asked him what he came into Abuja to do to prove I had completely taken my mind off my mistakes. He was at the dunes to look for any job available, but they had no vacancy.
I asked him to drop by the office to see if he could fit in for the conveyor position at Rapid Express Logistics Limited. Fortunately, my colleagues agreed to engage him to work in Abuja.
Six (6) weeks after he resumed, he came to my office to thank me for the opportunity to work at RELL. He even burst into praying for God to bless me while showing gratitude. Shortly after the prayer session, he said he wanted to discuss a business idea with me.
This time the idea sounded nice, and we were willing to explore that opportunity when I discussed the same with my colleagues.
Glad that the organisation had agreed to carry out a pilot test on his proposal, he requested to be the team lead for the project.
To that, I refused and politely explained that we had a system for how project execution and would have to report to his team lead as work progressed. He didn’t like the idea, and I found that he became itinerant during the pilot phase.
I noticed that he continued to grumble after I declined many other favours insisting that he followed established processes.
Last weekend, I accepted his resignation letter. Still, I didn’t fail to tell him that he could run away with my money seven (7) years ago because I was naive and didn’t uphold the power of established processes over certain decisions I made out of emotions or bias.
Of all roles I fulfilled in my career journey, working as a Quality Manager was my best because jobs were executed following laid down processes within the organisation. The biggest win for process-driven organisations is that emphasis is more on the processes that drive organisational growth rather than the individual fulfilling the roles.
Remember, BE A PROCESS DRIVEN ENTERPRISE
